Unproductive

Weekends with a 5 year old generally have a nap somewhere in there. With 8 acres and a house in the middle of remodel, there is never a shortage of things to do. When nap time rolls around, I always think I should stay awake and take care of stuff when the boy is sleeping. But a nap at 2 o’clock always sounds so nice. For some time this has been a struggle for me but I think I’ve come to terms with it.

We work so hard throughout the week. Often I get less than 5 hours of sleep. Weekends are our time for recovery. So why not sleep. I’m tired and want to relax. There is still going to be the list when we wake up. I’m not saying we should be lazy and waste the weekend away. But an hour or two recovery time for a nap I think is well earned. If we don’t take a moment to relax then we are working non stop.

Of course we want to finish the house and have it nice. But I don’t want those things at the cost of life’s little enjoyments. Remember the idea is slow intentional living. So that 2 hours of unproductive nap time I think are well deserved. So to keep pace with things: do the work as soon as you can, but allow time to enjoy life.
