Procrastination is the worst!
Procrastination is one of the biggest contributors to my frustration. I don’t want to do something so I put it off. Like right now as I’m writing this I’m avoiding putting the house to bed. It only takes a half hour (I’ve timed it). But I push it off and it ends up talking 1.5-2 hours. Why do we do this? Because it’s easy. Same with getting up in the morning. If I can get away with it I will hit snooze till the last minute I can. I don’t want to do it so I put it off.
It has been weighing on me more and more lately. With my newfound wish for a slower more intentional life, I want to get things done as soon as I can. Or at least I want to work towards being a person who does that. I want to remove the excess interruptions to allow more focus to be had on a task at hand. I think we could all benefit from this.
I have ideas to fight this. I would also love input from anyone reading this. Here are my ideas
1: Put my phone in jail when a task needs to be completed. Harder to be distracted when the main distraction is gone.
2: I think a check list would be useful. But specific tasks. Not just “clean garage”. Specific like organize paint shelf in garage, collect and plug in m18 batteries. This could be laid out simply on a white board.
3: when I catch myself being distracted I need to ask what am I avoiding. Then I need to immediately do that thing. No thought just go do it.
Obviously this is not a perfect list. But I think it’s a good start. Since I’m avoiding putting the house to rest I think I’ll go do that immediately.
